zannen.ca, better than previously advertised

I must mention that the zannan.ca guys read the comments on their posts and reply. I owe them an apology as I mistakenly ripped on them for a lack of this. My sincere apologies.

I would appreciate it if you went back and actually tried to understand the context of the complaints I've made. I think everything that I've said is quite justified based on the way YTV does and/or should be operating, and the feedback IS encouraging them to change things. Also, go and read the page on why I think Fruits Basket will work perfectly on YTV. It's far from just a random, fanboyish wish of mine.

I actually downloaded Re: Cutey(sp?) Honey on sunday and really liked it. It's an unfortunate length though. Too long for one disc. Too short for 2. ADV announced the rights a few years ago while it was in production but no word since.

I can assure you I've read all your articles and posts but I will make a few clarifications about my opinions.

About Fruits Basket. All I'm saying is that I can't see YTV airing it when it dosen't air alot more mainstream shows. I feel lobbying for a show with broader appeal FIRST would make a future battle to get FB on the air alot easier. But I just offered it up as my opinion as you did yours. I wish you luck in the fight though.

As for my comments about the site. I have to stand by them. I see no positive and much negative.

The issue with this, the issue with that. It's all "issues" and no positives. I can't help but be turned off when I see little in the way of positive commentary. I'm not one to RAH RAH things that don't deserve it but it's not ALL bad by a long shot. Particularily your distributors article is a little thin on real facts aboput how things actually work here in the Lower Mainland and that's what got me pissed. I had prepared an e-mail for you about this right after I read it and will post it on my blog if I can find it. If I can't it may take me a couple days to write a new one.

I overall agree with most of your points but if all anyone hears from your site are complaints they may start to tune you out.

I don't quite understand where you see the lack of positive commentary. I praise YTV for the things they do constantly. Yes, recently I have been more critical with stuff like Ghost in the Shell and One Piece popping up, and I've been more vocal about those than a lot of other "positive" things that YTV clearly is and will be doing later this year. I can see how you could've gotten that impression, since you've just recently found my site, but rest assured that it shouldn't represent any lack of balance in my opinions.

(And for the record, I haven't been pointing ANY fingers at YTV for One Piece airing in prime time. Everything that I've heard on the subject indicates that blame for the timeslot falls solely on the shoulders of 4Kids Entertainment. And that's the only "kiddy show" that I've complained about.)

As for the "issues"... well, do you honestly disagree that there aren't issues with Teletoon and SPACE? The only outlet here that actually deserves praise is YTV, and I plan to take down that page as soon as they get some FUNimation titles on the air. Even now, it focuses mainly on their "issues" of the past, and has almost nothing but praise for what they're doing now. I'm sorry if that gave you the wrong impression.

Also, in terms of current programming, I've only complained about editing on the site twice, and it seems that those problems have been addressed. Also, since the timeslot for GitS indicates that they probably don't plan to gear it towards the same audience as their earlier shows as I previously feared, I probably won't dwell on that much anymore. I had my spiel on that subject, and I stand by it.

I'm not trying to write myself off as an expert on this stuff - ESPECIALLY not on the distribution page. I thought that I had written it ambiguously enough to get the point across without years of experience in retail management, but I guess I didn't. If you see any glaring errors on the site, PLEASE correct me and I'll fix them. Seriously, I hate it when people don't point this stuff out to me and accuse me trying to spread erronous facts. That's not my intention at all, so I don't see why it's something to have a conniption over.

Are you coming to Anime Evolution this year? If so, please pop by The State of Anime in Canada panel. It was really great last year, and I learned a lot, so I think you might find it interesting.
